In 1966-67 and 1967-68, the voice of WRTI Sports was Sports Director Charles Liebman. Sounding every bit like a polished veteran, Charles handled play-by-play on Temple football, basketball and baseball, generally accompanied by "color" commentator Ray Didinger (yes, THAT Ray Didinger!). Charles finished every broadcast with his trademark catchphrase, "This is Charles Liebman, rounding third and heading home."

Here's Jerry Del Colliano doing a promo for "People in Sports" with Charles Liebman, in the Fall of 1967. (52 seconds)

Here's Charles doing his own promo for "People in Sports" in the Spring of 1967. (48 seconds)

1968 1999

Charles went into his family's furniture business after graduation rather than pursue a career in sports broadcasting. But he still has some keepsakes of his sports broadcasting days, which he has shared with us for the Old Gang Web site.

Here's a segment from a Temple Basketball game. Not just any game, but an appearance in the prestigious NIT (National Invitational Tournament) against Kansas at the then "new" Madison Square Garden. The date was March 16, 1968. As usual, Charles was doing play-by-play and Ray Didinger was doing color. Statistician was Mike Novum. The engineer was Mike Muderick. (8 minutes 32 seconds)
