WRTI "Old Gang" Message Board

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about the WRTI "Old Gang" Message Board.

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to post a followup to a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document. You can erase (cut) any or all of the previous message if you wish. It is often helpful to quote part of the previous message, to help other readers understand what it is you are responding to. However, it is also polite to delete as much of the previous message as you can while still keeping enough to provide context, so that responses don't get too large.

Can I put HTML tags in my messages?

Yes. You can insert HTML tags in the body of the message. For example, if you are discussing a particular web site, you can embed the URL in your message. This allows the reader to simply click on the link and thereby jump to the web site.

You can insert a URL by typing it in as shown in this example. Typing:

Click here to jump to the <a href="http://members.aol.com/GmmZ504918/oldgang.html">WRTI Old Gang website.</a>

will create this link:

You can also append a link to the end of your message by entering the title and URL in the text entry boxes below the message box.

Why didn't my post show up?

If your post did not show up, it's probably because your browser did not reload the page, but simply pulled it out of its memory or disk cache. Click on your browser's Reload or Refresh button and your message should then appear.

Where can I get the scripts for this program?

The scripts are written in Perl (a computer language) and created by Matt Wright. The scripts are free to anyone who wishes to use them and you can get them as well as other scripts at: http://worldwidemart.com/scripts/.
