Marilyn Joan Alkus (Bonomi)

Her Story

The following is an e-mail from Marilyn Joan Alkus (Bonomi) to Gerry Wilkinson on December 20, 1999... In the early 60's I was a Sec. Ed. major at Temple who spent most of my time in two places: the theatre office in Mitten Hall (where I hung out w/ Millie Lit, Barry Robert Molitch, and other dramatic types) and the basement of Thomas Hall... in the WRTI studios.

I never took a course in the department, but I did spend plenty of hours in front of the old AM board doing shows of my own and especially covering for others who didn't show up. And I spent considerably more hours with another 'RTI'er from '61-'65+, either keeping him company when he broadcast (you let HIM on FM, b/c he was a radio major ) and sitting on those concrete steps from Park St. necking and smoking. Or riding home in his white Plymouth Valiant and getting lessons in how to drive that 3-on-the-floor stick shift.

We both played a LOT of jazz; and he occasionally used to piss off the folks in power by doing things like a rock riff on "The tick tock time on the old Rye-Tye clock is..."

I would dearly love to learn what happened to him; the last I knew was in the early '80's he was the morning man on an AM station in Vineland New Jersey (WJJZ or BBZ, or BJZ or something like that) that may well no longer exist.

I also think he may be the mysterious station personnel #2 in front of the patch board in the '62 or '63 picture on your site.

His name is Bob Marek, and if you know anything about his current whereabouts, I'd really appreciate your passing it on to me!

Don't know if I qualify as an "Old Timer" but my maiden name is Marilyn Joan Alkus and I graduated in June of '65.

Thanks for any help you can offer!
Mari Bonomi
