What We Know

The following is written by Gerry Wilkinson....On Saturday, April 25, 1998, I spoke to Jane Lazarus and very briefly to her husband, Frank Beasley, who worked at WCAU-TV.

Jane was graduated from Temple University in 1956. During her four years at WRTI, she "learned much about this broadcasting industry." She told me that she was one of the very first women involved with WRTI. When she started at the radio station, there was only AM, described by John B. Roberts, founder of WRTI as "a wired-wireless." The station's signal was broadcast through the University's electrical system. It was sort of a carrier-current station but on a much greater scale. It could be heard through the entire campus assuming you had an electric radio. But then, that's all there was then. Part way through her schooling, WRTI-FM, then 10 watts, was added.

In the Thursday, November 14, 1996 issue of the Temple University News, Jane was quoted as saying, "I am still using the experience that I learned at WRTI." Jane has recorded several record albums.
