Gary Torresani

His Story

The following is an e-mail from Gary Torresani to Gerry Wilkinson....Glad to hear from you by way of my mom. Yes, I'm alive and well in Silicon Valley California. Geez, how did these rumors of my death get going any way?

Had a great run in the radio business out here in the bay area from 1971 through 1989. Established myself very well as an air personality, and in managing and recording bands, and voice over work. I was doing really well, then took a major hit to my hearing in the mid 80's and decided to get out of the business on a full time basis, although I continued to work part time for fun.

I then established a new career as a technical writer (what else does one do in Silicon Valley) for a number of years and finally burned out on that, after I developed Carpal Tunnel in both hands.

After taking time out to consider what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I had a spiritual awakening, went back to grad school and now work as a Rehabilitation Counselor, working with the disabled community, in drug and alcolhol abuse, and in the worker's comp. arena.

I guess that this is about as radical a departure from being a media star as you can get, but I am very happy and content and happy to be of service to others. I do free lance radio or writing stuff once in a while, or one of my friends will hire me as a consultant once in a while to help with their stations. So I keep in touch with a lot of radio folks here and there, but unless I become the next Doctor Laura, my time in the radio/tv biz is pretty much over. I have to admit, that it was a lot of fun while I was there. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to pull it off for a while.

To catch you up on some stuff with other people.

Joe Regelski is here on the left coast. After some years in SF radio as a major morning news personality, he burned out on the major market BS and now works at a small station in Mendincino, with a few other well known ex major market jocks (from the LA market). Joe now lives in one of the most beautiful places on the planet earth, and is happier than I have ever seen him. Joe and I keep in contact with each other frequently.

Milt Weiss works for Disney/ABC at KGO TV as the news director. He has done quite well. Ronn Owens, who I beleive was a bit before our time at Temple, is also a major air personality for KGO Radio.

Outside of these folks, I don't know any other Temple grads on the left coast from our period at RTI.

Interested in what you are trying to do. Is there an RTI reunion in the works? Any info would be appeciated.

Speaking of which. If you have heard what happened to Ken Medd and where he is these days, could you please let me know. Ken was my roomate for a while, and I completely lost touch with him. About ten years ago, he was in Scranton, but that is the last I have heard. How about Dave Moskowitz, or Rich Arfin?

I was back in Philly over the holidays to build up my supply of Tastycakes. Could't believe that Jerry Blavat was still on the radio. Some things never change.

Great to hear from you. Because we are both on AOL, it would be easy to keep in contact. Hope to hear from you soon. My handle is Garyt1205.

Peace
Gary Torresani
