Yule Greetings from WRTI & WRTI-FM....1964

Yule at WRTI & WRTI-FM, Philadelphia
December 16, 1964

This page contains twelve color photos from the personal collection of Marlene Patrick. All of the dozen pictures were taken in the basement of Thomas Hall (otherwise known as the studios of WRTI AM & FM). The date was December 16, 1964.

Photo #1 - Jane "Clutz" Lessner says "You know how to turn on a turntable?"
Marlene "Clutz" Patrick says "What's a turntable?" (From a Christmas Skit)

This photo looks into Master Control, (B). Note the audio chain and equipment in the window. Anyone know who the two people inside Master Control are? The guy on the right looks a little like Walt Mocrytzki.

Photo #2 - Marlene Patrick, Dave McLaughlin, Jane Lessner and Ardell Creeley sing (or try to) in this Christmas Skit. (Sung to the tune of East Side - West Side) FM, FM all around the town....
really broadcasts the finest 'til the transmitter breaks down."

Photo #3 - "What a way to do a newscast!" Joe Horowitz and Jane Lessner

Photo #4 - Jane says, "Did Goldwater really win or are you just trying to get me off your lap?"
Jane Lessner, Dave McLaughlin (from a Christmas skit)
Can anyone identify the guy in the three piece suit on the left?

From Mike Biel....Could it be Joe Horowitz? The vest, glasses, and tie would match with photo 3.

From Jane Lessner....Biel is right (isn't he always)--its Joe Horowitz

Photo #5 - The Gang at the Christmas Party
In the front row is Mike Biel & Ron Wertheimer. Can anyone ID any of the others?

From Mike Biel....The guy on the right in the front row with Ron and myself is Marty Adelman. If the redhead to the right in picture 8 is Jackie Miller, is the redhead to the left in the back row in this picture, Jackie Miller?

From Bill Stock....Isn't that Eric Bersh being hugged 2nd from left in the back row? I must have missed that party for some reason. Glad I could catch up now.

From Jane Lessner....Jackie Miller IS in the red sweater at the left of the picture.

(Added 1/24/98) From Mickey Saperstone....Jane IS correct - I would never argue with her - that IS Jackie Miller in the upper left.

Photo #6 - Marlene Patrick singing "Wouldn't It Be Loverly." (Christmas skit)
This is again taken from inside Studio B looking into Master Control. Is that Walt Mocrytzki still hanging around inside the control room?

Photo #7 - WRTI, the Station for Young Lovers.
Dave McLaughlin & Ardell Creeley.
The photo is supposedly taken after one of their famous make-out sessions. Note the cementsteps and wooden railing. These are the steps that led down to the basement studios of WRTI.

From Mike Biel....The steps inside the building that led from the doorway from the Mall side of the building (East) were wooden. There were outside cement stairs that led from the alleyway to the door near Studio A's doors. I have a feeling that this is where this picture was taken. They could have kept themselves plenty warm. The other favorite make-out spot for them were the short stairs by the pay phone and water cooler leading up to the ladies room and the back door to Studio A.

Photo #8 - Cleaning up after the party
Suzie Rosengarten & Jackie Miller
Both Jerry Klein and Gerry Wilkinson thought that Jackie looked alot like Florence Weiss.

Photo #9 - Marlene Patrick and Ardell Creeley as "Mike Bove and friend." (That's Marlene wearing the shades portraying "Mike Bove.").
Again looking from Studio B into Master Control. Note the speaker in the upper left side of the photo.

Photo #10 - "Together Whenever We Go."
SB (name removed at SB's request), Jane Lessner, Marlene Patrick, Mike Bove, Ardell Creeley and Dave McLaughlin (in a Christmas Party Skit)
Note that SB's holding her glasses and wearing her coat. Bove would have offered to warm her up.

From Mike Biel....Why are Jane and Ardell both wearing the same skirt and red sweaters?

Photo #11 - "Does snookums want his back rubbed now?"
Jane Lessner and Bob Marek. Isn't that Mike Biel in the Record Library?
Photo was taken by the side of Studio D's window looking towards the Record Library and the hallway that led to the newsroom and John Wright's office. That's the typewriter so many Traffic Managers have typed the WRTI logs on.

Photo #12 - A.G.A. gets in the groove
Kent Bishop & Jane Lessner
A.G.A. must have referred to something before my time. What the hell does it mean?

From Mike Biel....Photo 12. No period after the first A. "A G.A. just refers to A Graduate Assistant." It's not a secret code!
