Gary Gumpert

His Story

The following is an e-mail from Gary Gumpert to Gerry Wilkinson (2/99)

I just came across your incredible WRTI web site. Strange how the past leaps forward. One of my former Temple friends just got in touch with me after 45 years. Let me confess vanity a moment. I was just trying out a new browser and search engine and put in my own name. I do this totally as an ego trip...who reads my books and articles, who lists me in their bibliographies., etc.. And I found WRTI.

I was the Production Director of the station in the Fall of 1954. At that time I was also directing "Miracle of America" both at WFIL and at WRTI. John Roberts was my primary mentor and our race down Watt Street might still be remembered by the weak and feeble.

I am now Professor Emeritus at Queens College and Co-Founder of Communication Landscapers - a consulting firm in Great Neck, NY. I remain very active as a researcher, consultant, and writer. The next book coming out is an edited volume on Cyberlaw - probably next month.

Anyhow, I would be pleased to meet you and talk about the wonderful days that I remember so vividly.

Sincerely,

Gary Gumpert

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the picnic - since I will be at a conference in San Francisco. Please give my regard to John Roberts. I am attaching a photograph taken of me in the control at WRTI probably in 1953. An article went with it which follows. I believe it was in the Oak Lane newspaper.
