Sandy Skalka, His Story

Sandy Skalka

His Story

The following is an e-mail from Sandy Skalka to Gerry Wilkinson....
Gerry:

Had a conversation with my son, David last night and he mentioned the WRTI (does the "R" stand for relic?) server. The information you collected about me - address, etc. is correct. My wife, Carol and I and our 6 year old daughter, Vera live in suburban New Jersey.

I left broadcasting in 1974 after working in News Departments at WEOL/WBEA-FM, Elyria, Ohio, WNBF AM-FM-TV, Binhamton, New York, and News Director of WGNY/WFMN-FM, Newburgh, New York. After more jobs and careers than anybody has a right to, I've spent the last 10 years with ACNielsen Company (no not the ratings business) analyzing consumer purchase data for several manufacturers including Reckitt & Colman (of Lysol fame), Sony and several small clients.

Prior to that I spent a fair amount of time in industrial television for a defense contractor and ran the Video Continuing Education Department for the American Institute of CPAs.

Regards to all

The following is an e-mail from Dave Skalka (Sandy's Son) to Gerry Wilkinson (3/21/00)....
Incidentally, I happened to check out the WRTI website you put together and I stumbled on a picture from May '67 of my father and "his date". That date is my mother, Lois Murphey (formally Skalka)...Pretty funny.

I forwarded that picture to my wife who got a HUGE kick out of the fact that my dad and I look so much alike, and that I followed in his footsteps in college as a radio guy: I was the General Manager of WCNI-FM in New London (Connecticut College) in 1994. Anyways, I thought you'd be interested.
