This is a photo of Dr. William D. Thatcher, the very first student of what would later be Temple College and then Temple University. It was taken in 1940 when he was the pastor of "The First Baptist Church" of Imlaystown, New Jersey. He was the principal speaker at Founder's Day Dinner at Temple University in February of 1941. He died a month later. The Park Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church (Thomas Hall) was first called "Thatcher Hall" in his honor upon the building becoming the property of the University.
